Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge: Samsung's best Smartphone!

Overview and First Impressions:

Ok so I am going to love writing a review and my first impressions for this one. From the very start I have always disliked Samsung primarily because of two things. Two of these things I think almost every Smartphone Manufacturer should really think about when manufacturing android smartphones. Something that defines the difference between an extraordinary phone and an average phone.

Two of these things for me are - Software and Design. This is one of of the reasons why I love the iOS devices, because even without having the best of specs they can juice out maximum capability from their iOS devices. Samsung has this very typical rounded design they incorporate in their smartphones which tends to follow on most of their devices. So much, so I can say the same for their Touch Wiz UI. Interestingly there has been some changes in design since late 2014 up till now with the introduction of Super AMOLED displays, OLED displays, Edge Displays , and so on.

One such device is the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge! I have got the chance to use almost all the series of Galaxy S devices except the S6. My first Galaxy S device was the S2 which I borrowed from my sister and still consider it to be one of my favourite Galaxy S devices.

First impressions first, the moment you unbox the phone and look at that Edge Display, it is so crisp, it just makes the phone look so premium. It has a very sleek design that makes stand out amongst its competitors. The phone is an all Metal Unibody design with 3D curved glass, and you get the dual edge displays. The phone feels really good in the hand, however for users having the larger S7 Edge Screen, could be an issue typing or using it single handed sometimes.

Design:

The S7 comes with a 5.1 inch SUPER AMOLED display and the 5.5 inch S7 Edge comes with the same display but in Dual Edges. It has an embossed kind of a home button with a styling finish to the borders and also acts as the finger print scanner. It has speakers, a microphone jack and a USB connector at the bottom just like other smartphone manufacturers. I guess this is kind of a patent design everyone is using nowadays. It has a waterproof and dust-proof design and hell yeah it is, I have tested this personally and works amazingly well.

The back of the phone has a Metal Design with the Camera and the Dual Tone LED flash that helps capture low light pictures with an ease. It also has the darker shade of the Samsung Logo below the camera and other details below towards the end of the back. The camera a very slight bump that is really not so much of an issue.

If you notice the pictures above , see how sleek the design of the phone is. Towards the top and the bottom of the screens, it kind of looks more thicker, however on the sides of the phone due to the Dual Edge display it looks super slim. Moreover this kind of a edge display is I guess proprietary to Samsung, and I first saw this display on the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge. I considered that phone to be one of the best looking note phones, until the Note 7 came this year. Sadly, due to the major fiasco, note 7 had to be discontinued.

Performance:

The S7 Edge is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset,Adreno 530 GPU for the US version and the International Version comes with the Exynos 8890 Octa Core chipset,Mali T-880 MP12 GPU coupled with 4 Gigs of RAM that gives blazing fast performance. You will not notice even a bit of lag on the device. I do a lot of multi - tasking on the phone and didn't notice it at-least.

It comes in Single(dedicated Micro sim slot) and Dual Sim ( Hybrid Sim slot) with micro SD card support upto 256 GB. It has fast charging technology that comes with a fast charger and also supports NFC and wireless charging capabilities. It has a non - removable Li - ION 3700 mAH massive battery that will easily last you nearly 2 days of usage on a single charge with normal use. One suggestion is never overcharge your phone, we always have that habit. Over a period of time this spoils the battery life and leads to overheating on phones. It comes with Corning Gorilla glass 4 display on the back. The OS is running stock Android M with Samsung's touchwiz UI.

Camera and Video(From Samsung Site):

This is one of the best features I am going to talk about. The camera on the S7 and the S7 Edge is rear and front facing. The rear-facing camera is a 12MP shooter with a f1.7 Aperture and allows more light to enter in so that you can capture vivid shots and also low light pictures. This is one of the best cameras you can get on any smartphone, and the quality of images is spectacular. It has Phase Detection Autofocus, OIS(Optical Image Stabilisation) and LED Flash.

The front facing camera is a 5 MP shooter with f1.7 aperture, which also just like the rear camera lets more light penetrate through the phones camera thereby giving brighter shots. However , remember one thing that having higher mega pixel cameras isn't necessary having better picture quality. It also matter what kind of camera shots you prefer clicking.

The smartphone is capable of recording 4K resolution videos up-to 30fps and the video quality is very smooth and since it has image stabilisation the video will not have too much of bumps. It has a really good camera for video recording. So if you have a craze for shooting pictures and videos then this is the right choice.

Dual Edge Display:

The best part about the device is the dual edge display. It is highly customisable, and you can also decide what you need on the dual edge display, including the apps. Also you can decide if you want the display on the right or left side of the screen. The dual edge display can be bought up by swiping from the side of the screen.

Price and Variants:

The Samsung Galaxy S7 comes in two variants - One is the S7 which is a regular Samsung Galaxy S7 5.1 inch screen and the other is the S7 edge which is a 5.5 inch screen that comes with a Dual Edge display.

The S7 comes in two colours - Gold and Silver Titanium in a 32 GB model with 4 GB of RAM and its priced as INR 43,400/- and the S7 Edge comes in Gold colour 32GB variant with 4 GB of RAM and costs 50,900/-.
