The debate of android vs iOS is something that is going on for ages, and it seems to be a never ending topic. Android fanboys will not agree iOS is good and same goes for iOS Fanboys. It is important to understand that both the Operating Systems are good in their own ways.
While the Android Operating System offers incredible possibilities of customisation, at the same time the iOS Ecosystem offers security at its best. Android is available on different smartphones with different versions or distributions. For example, on a device like the Samsung Smartphones, it comes in with the Touch Wiz UI. Likewise for the Asus Zenfone series of smartphones they come with the Zen UI which is a customised version of the Android Operating System. Same goes in for Xiaomi smartphones, which comes in with the Mi UI. All these Android smartphones base operating system is Android. Lets say Android Marshmallow is Android 6.0, so these manufacturer will roll out their devices with a customised version of Marshmallow.
Now when it comes to picking up smartphones from these customised Android Distribution based companies, you need to remember that you will not get the latest Android upgrades first. Since the OS involves customisation it takes months to roll out releases which are specific to some devices. Only Google based phones like the Nexus or the Pixel series will get the latest android upgrades first, followed by other brands who provide stock android experience.
From my experience of using Android Smartphones, Google Pixel, Nexus, Motorola, One Plus have been the fastest and seamless operating system. They do have issues but it does not compare to the low end smartphones that come with manufacturers like Samsung , Asus , OPPO, VIVO etc. When you go for brands whose pricing goes below 25,000/- INR, then there is some compromise of quality somewhere. This could include a cheaper chipset, which is the heart of the device. Some go in for SOC's or some go in for Helios based processors which are not great. Heres a couple of smartphones which I would recommend if your looking at different price points.
1. Below 10,000 - Go for Motorola or Asus.
2. 10,000 - 25,000 - Go for Motorola, Asus, or Lenovo.
3. 25,000 - 35,000 - Go for Motorola, One Plus or Samsung.
4. 35,000 and above - Go in for HTC, Samsung, Google.
If you want just a phone for everyday use, not bothered about how the phone performs, and maybe looking specifically for camera or music phones , VIVO and OPPO are good choices.
I will now explain the Apple side of things. Out of all smartphones my favourite is Apple, because the iOS Operating System stays throughout all their devices, and they all come with more or less the same specifications. The only thing that varies in Apple throughout the years in design and chipset, camera improvements. Recently they have started upgrades on RAM, which I have never seen all these years. I am surprised, as to why they did so. iOS runs absolutely smoothly even with just 1GB of RAM, as opposed to android because it optimised very well. The level of Vulnerability is much lower in iOS as compared to Android.
One important thing I would like to speak about, is the battery on Android and iOS smartphones which make a huge difference. The battery life on iOS is just phenomenal, however when it comes to charging time, Android Smartphones beat iOS in this category, because they use Qualcomm's quick charge technology. It is all a matter of bang for the buck and how much you are willing to shell out.
There are several things that I look in for a good smartphone but one thing that I definitely look for is backup and restore, in case of future upgrades. So I see that here Apple outperforms Android by a huge margin. Reason being, Apple stores backup and restore data through iTunes, or via iCloud. This makes it easy to seamlessly backup and restore data whenever you buy a new iPhone. Apps are made available on Android to move to iOS for this very purpose as well. In this case, Samsung is the best in Android because they bundle an OTG cable, plus they have their own UI that helps you transfer the data, apart from their desktop software now called as Smart Switch.
In this department, Motorola, Google and stock android's do not have such softwares. They completely rely on Google data, which does not backup your messages, which is critical for many people. Some of my most favourite iPhone's are as below.
1. iPhone 3GS
2. iPhone 4G
3. iPhone 5S
4. iPhone 6S
So when your making a purchase for any smartphone, remember all these points before buying the right one. I am not against Android for any reason, but things to remember make a difference when purchasing.
