SnapChat: What and How?

SnapChat: What and How?

Snapchat is primarily a photo-sharing multimedia app that lets its users share pictures and messages different from the traditional texting/whatsapp method. It had been developed in September 2011 with only private, one-on-one photo sharing feature. In the course of 6 years it developed to include a range of additional features like as Your Story, Discover, Our Story, short video sharing, face filters etc. Presently, it has 166 million active users and it can be used in 20 different languages. Don't believe me, check it out!

The best part about using snapchat has been that it allows me to share photos in 2 ways:

  1. Either create a 'snap/text' for privately sharing to a single person.
  2. Or simply create a 'story' for all your snapchat followers.
Let's go through the features of this app step-by-step:
  1. Go to the Playstore/AppStore and download the app.

  1. Create your account using UserName and Password.

  1. Once you have your user name, you can send invites to your friends and add them to your snapchat list - what this does, is enables you to view their story as and when they publish it. Remember that you should be following them in order to see their posts.

  1. You can now start sending snaps to people privately or create a story from a series of snaps that all your snapchat followers can view.

  1. You can also select a photo/video from your camera roll and post it as your snap.
  1. Additionally you can get live feeds from major events/celebrities on a day-to-day basis.

The most attractive feature of Snapchat is that you can show your friends where you are/what you are upto at a given point in time instead of leaving a text. It is a live feed from you to your friends.

The interesting features of this app are:

  • Photo Filters
  • Face Filters
  • Place, temperature and speed filters
  • Live updates via photo/video/text
  • Video Chat
  • Text within photo/video
  • Stickers within photo/video
  • Save your snaps feature

The Snap controversy?

Snapchat, the photo-sharing, multimedia app developed by Snap Inc. had been in news for the past few months due to the alleged statement made by CEO, Evan Speigel, claiming that, "the app is only for rich people. I don't want to expand into poor countries like India and Spain". The fire created by this statement burn down the liking for this app world wide. Further more, the reviews for the app on google playstore/appstore also took a huge hit. No one knows if the statement was really made by him but his name is catch in this controversy.

Snapchat lovers, keep snapping!
