Using DSLR's for Videography and Photography Vs Traditional Mobile Cameras

This article has been written for those users who are thinking on considering a Smartphone as an option for Videography as compared to using an entry Level DSLR. Just a heads up for you guys, if you plan to shoot a still video, maybe of yourself sitting on the couch or chair explaining some stuff this would be a good idea. When it comes to camera movements like slider shots, aperture based videography, zoom in shots, the mobile cameras lag far behind. Let me explain to you below.

Shooting with a Mobile Phone 

I have an iPhone 7 Plus and a Google Pixel, the two biggest brands in the Mobile Industry. I use the Pixel as my daily driver and the iPhone basically for my Software Development work.

The camera performance in terms of camera per say is better on the Google Pixel in certain conditions. When it comes to videography my iPhone 7+ excels completely. Reason being I did some videos on YouTube with my Pixel and there seems to be way to much noise on the videos. I did notice it as the colour shades were darker the noise was much more visible. It has a severe noise ratio when it came to zooming in shots. Whereas on my iPhone 7+ the noise was zero when it came to zoomed out videography but when I started to zoom in 2x times I did notice noise but it was not that much that spoilt the quality of the video. 

So you can imagine if I used a lower budget camera how awful the video quality could be. If you are beginner you definitely must go for Mobile Phone based videography to really understand what and how it feels to work with something on the budget side. Of course my phones are not budget but there are decent budget phones that offer good camera quality. 

Shooting with a Camera or a DSLR

Coming to shooting with DSLR's or regular camcorders. If photography is not your priority then you must definitely opt for a camcorder or a handy-cam. If you need a combo of both go for a good entry level DSLR's. 

When it comes to shooting great videos or even intermediate level videos on YouTube or anywhere else DSLR's are the best. DSLR's are expensive than camera's because they involve buying stuff like lenses, tripods, carry case, memory card and so on. But there are budget and entry level DSLR's that would cost you probably half of an iPhone. If your ok with that and not looking at professional videography then its fine. 

DSLR offer far more manual options to tweak with like Aperture, ISO and Shutter Speed which are the 3 key aspects of photography or videography. There are endless possibilities to learn using a DSLR about various concepts and as you use you will get addicted to it. The only two DSLR's that I have used so far were of Sony and both belong to the alpha series. I had used the Canon long back and am always a fan of Canon when it comes to DSLR's. Some of my friends do suggest Nikon but then its one own choice. 

So if you consider clicking photos go for a Mobile Camera, if you want to go for videography go for a Camcorder or an entry level DSLR. If you are looking for both DSLR is always a best bet. I am leaving some options below of Mobile Cameras and DSLR's you could purchase online.
